Transit visa for Belarus

Do you intend to traverse Belarus as a transit country on your way to another destination? Visa requirements also apply to transit travellers! You need a transit visa for Belarus. Only with a valid visa are you allowed to start your transit stay in Belarus.

If you apply for a transit visa, the Belarusian embassy or consulate general requires the presentation of a main visa for your destination country. If you are traveling to a country where visa-free entry is possible, valid flight tickets, train tickets, bus tickets, or booking confirmations for onward travel must be submitted instead of a travel permit. These documents serve as proof that you are using Belarus only as a transit country and do not intend to stay longer.

The transit visa for Belarus is available for single, double, or multiple entry depending on the travel plans. The single-entry visa is needed if you are crossing Belarus only once, i.e., on the way there or back. The double-entry visa, on the other hand, can be used for both legs of the journey. A multiple-entry visa allows for multiple entries and exits. It is suitable, for example, if you regularly travel routes or are planning a round trip involving frequent border crossings with Belarus. Please consider in your travel preparations that you have a maximum of 2 days for each transit drive or stopover in Belarus. The use of the transit visa is limited to 48 hours per direction. The validity of the visa must be determined depending on the travel time. For multiple visas, longer durations generally apply.

Example of use and validity of the transit visa:

Your destination is Russia. The main visa is valid from 19.05. to 10.06.

• You are crossing Belarus exclusively on the way there. The optimal validity period of your single-entry type visa in the case of the described scenario is: 17.05. to 19.05.
• Belarus is only a transit country on the way back. Specify in the visa application the entry type "single" and ideally the following dates: 10.06. to 12.06.
• You are planning a transit in both directions in Belarus. A double transit visa with a duration from 17.05. to 12.06. is a sensible application variant for your tour.
