Mozambique
This country on the Indian Ocean coast is famous for its picturesque landscapes. Unlike other African countries, it remains an “insider” destination, offering an authentic experience with wild nature and unique traditions. Discover the island of Ilha de Moçambique and Limpopo National Park, adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Formalities for Your Trip to Mozambique

On the website of the Foreign Office, information about trips to Mozambique is regularly published. For entry into the African country, German nationals need a visa. Although visas are issued upon arrival at some larger Mozambican border crossings and at international airports, it is better to obtain the visa in advance. Keep in mind that you must apply for a multiple-entry visa if you plan excursions to the adjacent Kruger National Park in South Africa. If you are entering from a yellow fever country, proof of yellow fever vaccination must be presented.

Furthermore, our consular service is available to you. We assist citizens from Mozambique with passport exchanges and the legalization of documents. Not all official foreign documents are accepted in Mozambique. Usually, documents must be translated into the official language and then certified. This applies, among other things, to birth or marriage certificates, diplomas, and medical records. You can request translations of your documents from us and have them certified subsequently. Contracts and invoices as well as extracts from the commercial register must also be certified to be valid in Mozambique.

Travel to Mozambique

Mozambique is located in the southeast of the African continent and borders South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania. Despite its idyllic beaches, extensive national parks, and many natural attractions, the country is one of the lesser-known destinations in Africa. So, you can expect an authentic experience during a vacation in Mozambique. Influences from the Portuguese colonial era are noticeable in many places, including in place names and house facades. Moreover, Portuguese remains the official language to this day. An excellent example of colonial architecture is the Ilha de Moçambique. The island, located off the mainland, was the capital of the country until the end of the 19th century. Since 1991, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site. The first Mozambican national park was founded in 1960, and today there are seven of them.

Tourism is still underdeveloped. However, in the capital and in the most popular holiday resorts, there are numerous hotels. If you like luxury, settle on the private island of Quilalea in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Amidst lush palm gardens and broad sandy beaches, one can wonderfully relax.

From Germany, you can reach Mozambique by plane. However, there are no direct connections. Most flights are offered from Frankfurt am Main. If you travel from Germany to Mozambique, you should definitely take out travel insurance. A trip cancellation insurance is recommended, which comes into effect if you cannot embark on your trip. Particularly important is the overseas health insurance: In case of accident or illness, it covers the treatment costs. The currency of Mozambique is the New Metical (MTn), which was introduced in 2006.
