Registration Tajikistan

Foreign visitors in Tajikistan are required to register within three days of entry. For holders of tourist visas, the 3-day deadline only applies if a stay of more than 30 days is planned. Border crossers with non-tourist intentions are subject to registration regardless of location and length of stay.

You must have your passport with a valid visa for registration. If you receive documents from authorities during your trip, keep them safe until you leave. Always carry your passport with visa as identification is mandatory.

The Department of Visas and Registration of the Tajik Interior Ministry, known in Tajikistan by the acronym OVIR, is responsible for the registration of foreigners. The relevant offices are usually located at the city administration ("Chukumat").

To complete the registration quickly, it is recommended to inquire about the addresses and opening hours of the relevant authorities at the holiday destination in Tajikistan already at the airport. If you are traveling at the invitation of a business partner or following a private invitation, your host will surely be happy to help you.

Hotels that have the necessary authorization will handle the registration for their foreign guests. Please inquire directly with your accommodation to see if this option is available. Otherwise, you are responsible for visiting the OVIR office yourself.

Travelers are advised to check the category of their visa before starting their journey. Only for holders of tourist visas "Touristitscheskaya", marked with the abbreviation "T" on the visa label in the passport, the relaxed "30-day rule" applies. If the Tajik embassy or consulate has issued a different visa category unexpectedly, registration in Tajikistan is required - even for tourist purposes and short stays.

Make sure to meet the 72-hour deadline. Failure to register on time or missing the deadline may result in significant fines and delays in departure.
