Turkmenistan introduces electronic visa: law already passed, details pending

On May 7, 2025, it became known that Turkmenistan officially adopted the law on the introduction of electronic visas (e-visa). The law was approved on April 18 and aimed at simplifying entry for foreign citizens.

Among the key changes — the cancellation of the mandatory invitation (LOI) for obtaining a visa, the possibility of applying online  and the general simplification of the visa procedure for tourist and business trips. Thus, the authorities expect to increase the flow of foreign guests and activate international business relations.

Despite the law coming into force, the procedure for submitting applications, the validity period of visas, and the types of e-visa have not yet been announced. These parameters, according to official sources, will be determined in the near future.

Before the launch of the electronic system, foreign citizens must still apply for a visa through the embassies and consulates of Turkmenistan. At the same time, it is necessary to obtain an invitation certified by the State Migration Service and register within three working days after entering the country.

After the implementation of the e-visa, a simplified document submission procedure, reduced application consideration times, and the cancellation of the need to provide LOI for most visa categories are expected.

Stay tuned on our website — we will inform you when the system starts working.
