The Turkmen authorities distinguish entry permits for tourist, business, private, and transit purposes.

The biggest hurdle in obtaining tourist visas, business visas, and private visas is the required invitation from the destination country, also known as a voucher or visa support letter. Only Turkmen travel agencies have the authorization to issue a tourist voucher for holidaymakers. For business travelers, the Turkmen trading partners are the contact persons to obtain an invitation letter, and for private travelers, the receiving hosts. Authentication of the letter by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan is required in each case.

Only for the transit visa, no visa support letter is required. It entitles to transit, for example, on the way to neighboring countries, and is valid for a maximum stay of 5 days. Turkmenistan's neighboring countries are Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. For these destinations, we also handle visa procurement upon your request. Transit visas entitle to stays of up to 5 days. In all other cases, the invitation letter is the deciding criterion for the permitted length of stay. The validity of the visa is determined according to the entry on the entry permit. Exceeding the period of validity as well as early entry is not permitted. If you need a visa for Turkmenistan, it is best to apply for it a few months before your trip - but at least one month before. This ensures that you receive your visa on time. You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip. The visas you receive will then have a residence permit for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or even 1 year. A distinction is then made between single or multiple entries and exits. Upon entry, you must always present your passport and visa.
