China has opened visa-free entry for British citizens for 30 days.
China has officially included the United Kingdom in the unilateral visa-free program and allowed British citizens to stay in the country without a visa for up to 30 days. The decision was made following the visit of Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Beijing and was an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations. Previously, Britons still had to apply for multiple visas for 5 or 10 years, while some European countries had been enjoying relaxations since 2025.
The liberalization of visa rules coincided with the active restoration of air communication between the two countries. China Southern Airlines increased the number of direct Guangzhou-London flights to eight per week, and in the first three quarters of 2025, about 12 thousand direct flights were made between the states. The passenger flow exceeded 3 million people, and the average load on key routes stabilized at 86%, indicating high demand for travel.
Experts expect that the cancellation of visas will be a powerful stimulus for the tourism industry. According to VisitBritain, in 2026, up to 667 thousand tourists from China will visit the United Kingdom — 28% more than the previous year. The economic effect of their trips may exceed 1.3 billion pounds sterling, confirming the growing role of mutual tourism in the development of the partnership between London and Beijing.
