Vietnam simplifies life for TRC holders: VNeID system launched
From July 1, 2025, Vietnam has introduced mandatory electronic identification for foreign citizens residing in the country with temporary resident cards (TRC). The new VNeID system is designed to simplify administrative procedures, including banking operations, tax payments, and registration.
To register in the system, it is necessary to personally visit the immigration service of the city that issued the TRC, with the original passport, valid resident card, and a Vietnamese phone number. After submitting the documents, within 3–7 days, an SMS with an activation code for the VNeID mobile application will be sent to the specified number.
The innovation affects all foreigners with TRC, regardless of the validity period of the card. A unique identification number in the system will soon become necessary for many official procedures, and all personal data will be stored in a secured application. This is an important step towards the digitalization of services for expats in Vietnam.
