Thailand: Current Safety Advisories Regarding the Cambodia Border and Southern Provinces

A partial travel warning remains in effect for certain regions of Thailand. This primarily affects the border area with Cambodia within a radius of approximately 20 kilometers from the borderline. Military clashes have occurred there since July 2025, resulting in deaths and injuries. Although a ceasefire was agreed upon at the end of December 2025, the security situation in the border region remains tense and uncertain. All border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain closed, and unexploded ordnance and minefields in the immediate border region may pose an additional danger.

Travel to the provinces of Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani, as well as parts of Songkhla—specifically the districts of Chana, Na Thawi, Thepha, and Saba Yoi—in southern Thailand is also strongly discouraged. In this region along the border with Malaysia, clashes between separatist groups and security forces occur regularly, as do terrorist attacks that may also target locations frequented by foreigners. Emergency laws are in effect there, and nighttime curfews may be imposed on short notice in certain districts. Anyone planning a trip to these parts of the country should follow developments in the situation very closely and strictly follow instructions from security forces.

For the rest of Thailand, including major tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and the islands in the Gulf of Thailand, there are currently no comparable travel warnings. However, travelers should generally remain vigilant, as security checks or road checkpoints may also be set up in tourist areas, and the global threat of terrorist attacks remains a constant concern. Large gatherings, demonstrations, and rallies may occur nationwide and should be avoided at all costs.
