Oman announces launch of new cultural visa: long validity periods, accessible conditions
Oman officially introduced a new category of long-term cultural visas — for one, five, and ten years — thus making a significant step towards supporting the global creative community. The new initiative is part of the 'Vision 2040' strategy aimed at strengthening cultural exchange, developing creative industries, and attracting talents from around the world.
The program offers artists, researchers, authors, cinematographers, and other creative professionals a legal mechanism for living and working in the sultanate. Unlike many countries in the region, Oman focuses not on elite projects but on people who shape the cultural environment. The visa is valid in formats of 1, 5, or 10 years, with the annual cost remaining fixed at 50 Omani rials.
One of the key benefits is the ability to invite family. The 'Cultural Visa for Joining' allows spouses and close relatives to accompany the main applicant, making the program particularly attractive for those planning long-term projects, festival participations, and research activities in Oman.
To obtain a visa, sponsorship from an accredited Omani organization is required — from ministries and universities to cultural centers and festivals. This approach ensures transparency and confirms the cultural significance of the applicant's work. Authorities emphasize that the program creates an accessible platform for collaboration and opens up opportunities for creative initiatives, from traditional arts to digital technologies.
