Turkey Lowers the Age Limit for Visa-Free Entry for Algerian Citizens to 50

By Presidential Decree No. 11456 of June 19, 2026, published on June 20, 2026, in the Turkish Official Gazette (Resmî Gazete), Turkey has expanded the visa-free entry regulations for Algerian citizens holding ordinary passports. The previous age limit of 65 has been lowered to 50. This means that significantly more Algerian travelers can now enter Turkey without a visa.

Specifically, Algerian citizens holding ordinary passports who are younger than 15 or older than 50 no longer need a visa for tourist stays or for transit through Turkey. The maximum length of stay is 90 days within a 180-day period. This regulation applies equally to tourist travel, family visits, medical treatment, shopping trips, and transit.

Not a Complete Visa Waiver

It is important to note that the new regulation does not waive the visa requirement for all Algerian citizens. Holders of ordinary passports between the ages of 15 and 50 still require a visa to enter Turkey. Travelers between the ages of 15 and 18 and 35 and 50 may, under certain conditions, obtain an electronic visa for a single stay of up to one month — particularly if they hold a valid Schengen, U.S., British, or Irish visa or a corresponding residence permit.

Holders of official (service) passports from Algeria remain exempt from the visa requirement for stays of up to 90 days, regardless of age. This measure comes amid a phase of intensified bilateral relations between Ankara and Algiers, which have recently expanded their cooperation in trade, investment, and other areas.

For travelers, the new regulation means one thing above all: eligibility for visa-free entry depends precisely on age, the type of passport, and the purpose of travel. Those who do not fall into the eligible age groups should check before departure whether a regular visa or an e-visa is required. Especially for the aforementioned intermediate age groups with access to an electronic visa, it is worth carefully checking the requirements in advance, such as existing Schengen or other reference visas.
