Thailand revises rules for 60-day visa-free regime
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand and the Department of Consular Affairs have confirmed the start of consultations on the revision of the current 60-day visa-free regime. The possibility of reducing the stay for certain categories of foreign citizens is being discussed.
The program, introduced in July 2024, allowed citizens of 93 countries to stay in Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. The measure became part of the strategy to revive the tourism sector after the pandemic. However, the authorities have stated the need to «reassess the balance between tourism and migration control».
The Ministry of the Interior, the Immigration Bureau, and the National Security Council are participating in the discussion. Following the consultations, proposals will be sent to the government's Visa Policy Committee. Until a decision is made, the current regime remains in force.
Travelers eligible for visa-free entry can still stay in Thailand for up to 60 days with the possibility of extending for another month. An official statement about possible changes will be published later.
