Indonesia Plans to Raise Fees for Visas on Arrival (VOA) and e-VOA

On August 12, 2026, the Indonesian Immigration Agency presented a proposal to increase the fees for the Visa on Arrival (VOA). The proposal was presented by Hendarsam Marantoko, Director General of Immigration, at the agency’s headquarters in Jakarta and calls for different fees depending on whether travelers apply for their visa online before departure or only after arriving in the country.

According to the Indonesian national news agency ANTARA, the new fee for an electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), which is applied for online before the trip, will be 750,000 rupiah (equivalent to about 42 U.S. dollars). Those who apply for the visa only after arriving in the country would have to pay 1 million rupiah (about 56 U.S. dollars) in the future. Currently, both options cost a flat rate of 500,000 rupiah (about 28 U.S. dollars) for an initial stay of 30 days, which can be extended once, allowing for a total stay of up to 60 days.

The planned change would thus mean a price increase of about 50 percent for the e-VOA applied for before departure, while the fee for a visa issued upon arrival would actually double. The deliberate price difference between the two options appears to be intended to encourage travelers to apply for their visa online before their trip begins, rather than completing the process at the airport upon arrival.

For tourists planning a trip to Indonesia, this means one thing above all: Those who complete the formalities early will ultimately save money and avoid additional time pressure upon arrival. Applying online before departure is the more convenient option anyway, as it avoids lines at border control and provides planning certainty before the flight even takes off.

So far, this is an officially proposed measure, and the exact date it will take effect has not yet been confirmed. Travelers planning a trip to Indonesia in the coming months should keep an eye on developments, as the cost of entry may vary significantly depending on when the measure is implemented. Those who apply for their visa early will definitely secure the currently more favorable terms, as long as they remain in effect.
