India: 85 Port of Entry Now Open to e-Visa Holders
India has updated the list of officially authorized points of entry for holders of an electronic visa (e-visa). This list currently includes 85 points of entry: 36 airports, 38 seaports, and 11 land border crossings. This means that travelers with a valid e-visa now have significantly more options for entering India than they did just a few weeks ago.
Among the newly added entry points are the airports in Bhopal and Tirupati, as well as several land border crossings, the inclusion of which was announced by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on August 10, 2026. This expansion is intended to give travelers more flexibility in planning their itineraries and, in particular, to open up regions that were previously more difficult for e-visa holders to access.
It is interesting to note a slight discrepancy in the numbers: While the current list on the online portal lists 85 entry points, the Indian government had originally mentioned 88 entry points in its August 10 announcement—including 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land border crossings. The difference can be partly explained by the fact that the Darranga border crossing was listed twice in the original announcement—both among the existing and the newly added land entry points. The online portal now correctly counts this crossing only once.
In addition, the Attari land border crossing, which was also part of the original announcement, is currently missing from the latest list. The crossing is located on the border between India and Pakistan and thus in a politically sensitive region, which could explain its temporary omission.
For travelers, this development primarily means more options for entry routes into India. However, anyone planning a trip should carefully verify—before booking flights or overland travel—whether the planned entry point is actually listed on the current list, as this list is still subject to change. We’ll check the current requirements for you and handle the entire application process for your e-Visa for India.
Depending on the purpose of your trip, different visa categories may apply. For tourist stays, the Indian tourist visa is generally suitable, while business travelers should apply for the corresponding business visa. You can find all the details regarding the respective requirements, validity periods, and processing times in our visa overview for India, where we also provide assistance with individual questions about choosing the right visa category.
Given the growing number of entry points, it’s worth travelers’ while to check their travel plans against the current regulations well in advance. Careful preparation helps avoid delays upon entry and makes the most of the benefits offered by the expanded list.
