China and Malaysia have introduced a mutual visa-free regime
From July 17, 2025, an agreement between China and Malaysia on the mutual cancellation of visas came into force. According to the document, citizens of both countries with valid ordinary passports can enter, exit, and stay in the territory of the other country without a visa for up to 30 days. The total duration of the stay should not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.
The visa-free regime applies to tourist trips, visits to relatives and friends, business visits, participation in exchanges, receiving medical assistance, and international transport (including crews). For trips with other purposes, including study, work, and journalistic activities, it is still necessary to obtain the appropriate visa before entry.
The signing of the agreement took place on April 16, 2025. Its entry into force continued the initiatives to simplify international travel: earlier, the countries had already introduced temporary unilateral measures allowing short-term visits of up to 15 days.
It is expected that the new measure will significantly increase the tourist and business flow between the countries. In 2024, Malaysia was visited by nearly 4 million citizens of China, which is twice the figure of the previous year. China, in turn, continues to expand the list of countries with the right to visa-free entry, which now includes more than 70 states.
