The US suspends visa processing for Russia and 74 other countries
From January 21, 2026, the United States will suspend the processing of immigration visas for citizens of 75 countries. The restriction concerns individuals seeking permanent residence (green card). The decision is motivated by the government's desire to limit the entry of individuals who may become a 'public charge'.
The list of countries subject to restrictions includes states from the former USSR, as well as countries from Europe, the Balkans, Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania.
Countries of the former USSR:
Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan.
Europe and the Balkans:
Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro.
Asia and the Middle East:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Vietnam (Myanmar), Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, Cambodia, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Syria, Thailand.
Africa:
Algeria, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan.
Latin America and the Caribbean:
Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Haiti, Grenada, Guatemala, Dominica, Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Uruguay, Jamaica.
Oceania:
Fiji.
It is important to note that the restrictions do not apply to non-immigrant visas, including tourist, student, and business visas. An exception is also made for individuals with dual citizenship, if the application is submitted under the passport of a country not included in this list.
