Chinese police patrol Thailand's most popular tourist spots together with Thai police
Chinese police will join forces with Thai police to patrol the kingdom's most popular tourist spots to boost tourist confidence. Thai Prime Minister Sretta Thavisin announced such an initiative to be carried out during the high season. The official announcement was made on Monday, November 13, 2023.
As part of the planned initiative, a meeting with representatives from the Chinese Embassy will be held on Tuesday, November 15. Senior officials from the Thai Police, Tourist Police and Central Intelligence Bureau will attend the meeting to discuss and work out the details of the plan. The exact locations where the Chinese police will patrol have not yet been announced, but they will be areas where there is a high concentration of Chinese tourists. It is expected that popular tourist spots such as Pattaya and Phuket will also be on the list.
This unconventional decision was taken to restore the confidence of Chinese tourists in the level of security in Thailand, which has been undermined by several factors in recent months. These include a mass shooting at a major shopping mall in which a Chinese tourist was one of the victims. In addition, tourism has been badly affected by the release of a movie in China in which Chinese nationals are tricked into working in Southeast Asia.
Joint patrols will not only make Chinese tourists feel safer, but also travelers from many other countries who trust the Chinese police system. Further details of this plan will be announced in the coming days.
