Saint Kitts and Nevis introduces electronic travel authorization (eTA) from May 2025
Saint Kitts and Nevis announces the launch of the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system for all foreign nationals who are granted visa-free entry into the country. The new system, which will take effect from May 26, 2025, is designed to facilitate the border crossing process, reduce waiting times, and improve the efficiency of tourist flow control.
It is important to note that eTA is not a visa, it merely provides permission to travel to the country. The validity of eTA is 90 days or until the expiration of the passport, whichever comes first. Applications for eTA can be submitted three months prior to the trip, however, it is recommended to do so two weeks before the planned departure. eTA applications for children under 18 years old must be submitted by legal guardians, parents, or accompanying adults. It is recommended to apply in groups, especially for family travels.
Residents and citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as citizens of the member countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), will be exempt from the need to obtain an eTA. Nevertheless, travelers who are exempt from paying the tax will still need to fill out the immigration and customs form ED.
For passengers arriving by air and transiting through Saint Kitts and Nevis, eTA is not required, provided that they do not leave the airport.
Once the application is approved, it will be necessary to present the approval QR code upon request by airport staff or immigration services. It is also recommended to print out the PDF document or save it on a mobile device, as this document will need to be presented at all points of departure and arrival.
The introduction of the eTA system allows Saint Kitts and Nevis to enhance the convenience and efficiency of the travel process for all tourists, as well as to modernize security measures at the borders.
