New Zealand: new seasonal visas GWSV and PSV from December 2025

Seasonal work in New Zealand 2025 has become more accessible: the government launches two new visa pathways — GWSV and PSV, which will simplify the hiring of foreign workers during peak periods.

From December 8, 2025, New Zealand introduces two new visa regimes for temporary workers — Global Seasonal Work Visa (Global Workforce Seasonal Visa, GWSV) and Peak Season Visa (Peak Season Visa, PSV). Both programs are developed within the framework of Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), to simplify the hiring process, speed up document processing, and ensure a stable immigration system.

Global Seasonal Work Visa (GWSV) — up to 3 years

  • For qualified seasonal work.
  • Minimum of 3 months per year — outside New Zealand.
  • Experience: at least 3 seasons in the last 6 years.
  • No labor market check and no English test required.
  • Possibility of switching to other visas.

Peak Season Visa (PSV) — up to 7 months

  • For entry-level and less skilled seasonal work.
  • After the end — mandatory 4-month break outside the country.
  • Experience: at least 1 season in the last 3 years.
  • Full medical insurance is mandatory.
  • No English requirements, but the employer must be approved by Work and Income.

Important conditions for both visas

  • No possibility to issue partner and dependent visas.
  • Employer change is possible only within the same type of visa.
  • When switching from a student or work visa, temporary work rights are preserved.

According to the New Zealand Immigration Service, the new visas GWSV and PSV will help the agricultural and other seasonal sectors to find employees more quickly during peak employment periods, while maintaining fair labor conditions for foreign workers.
