Mexico introduces e-Visa for air travel: travelers will be able to apply for a visa online as early as 2025

In the coming weeks, Mexico will introduce an electronic visa (e-Visa) for foreign travelers who require a visa and who arrive in the country by air.

Until now, tourists and business travelers needing a visa had to apply in person at the Mexican embassy or consulate. Now the process will be easier: from July 25, 2025, the authorities have approved the launch of an online application system.

How e-Visa to Mexico will work

• Applications can be made through the official portal by filling out an online form, uploading the necessary documents, and paying a fee of 54 USD.
• Once approved, the traveler will receive an electronic document with a QR code, which is presented at immigration control at the airport.
• The validity of the visa — 180 days from the date of issue, single entry.

Who can apply for an electronic visa

List of countries, citizens of which will be eligible for e-Visa, will be published by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This visa will be available only for air travel for tourism, business, or private visits without permission for paid work.

Who is exempt from e-Visa

• Citizens of the EU, UK, Canada, USA, Japan, South Korea can enter Mexico without a visa for short stays.
• e-Visa is also not required for holders of permanent residency or multiple visas from the USA, Canada, UK, Japan, or Schengen countries.

What documents will be needed

• Filled out online application.
• Recent digital photo (2–5 MB, no glasses, white background).
• Scan of the first page of the passport (2–5 MB, clear and trimmed around the edges).
• Online payment of the fee.
