The UK is now on the US visa waiver list: what has changed for tourists

The United Kingdom has officially joined the US Visa Waiver Program, becoming part of an initiative that already includes the world's major tourist destinations.

This decision will allow British citizens to stay in the United States for up to 90 days without needing a traditional visa, making travel faster and more accessible. The program aims to stimulate tourism development and strengthen cultural and economic ties between countries on both sides of the Atlantic.

Thanks to the switch to the ESTA electronic authorization system travelers from the United Kingdom can apply online, without the need to visit a consulate and undergo interviews. This simplified process is particularly convenient for those planning spontaneous trips — whether it's vacationing on the beaches of Florida or skiing in Colorado.

Currently, the program includes 43 countries, among them: the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Qatar, Chile, Brunei, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, and others. Experts note that the inclusion of the United Kingdom will expand tourist flows and bring additional impetus to the development of aviation communications and the tourism business of both countries. The innovation came into effect on August 18, 2025.
