Berlin slows down migration: humanitarian visas no longer issued

The German Foreign Ministry has suspended the procedures for issuing humanitarian visas. This was announced on July 23 on the official website of the foreign policy department.

«Currently, humanitarian reception procedures are suspended», — says the publication.

According to the ministry's data, as part of federal programs, as of January 2025, Germany has facilitated the entry of 34.7 thousand 'vulnerable' citizens of Afghanistan. Also, since 2017, there has been a resettlement program for asylum-seeking Syrians and stateless persons from Turkey. Thanks to it, up to 3,000 people moved to Germany annually.

Among the countries whose citizens received humanitarian support within the framework of these programs were:

Afghanistan
Syria
Turkey

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that he supports the immigration of highly skilled specialists needed for the country's economy.
