Don't forget the QR code: Ecuador has updated customs regulations
From July 29, 2025, Ecuador will tighten customs rules: from now on, all those entering and leaving must fill out an online customs registration form — Formulario de Registro Aduanero (FRA). Previously, FRA was only required when importing taxable goods or large amounts of cash, but now it must be processed by all travelers, regardless of the purpose and duration of the trip.
The form must be filled out online no later than 72 hours before arrival or departure, after which a QR code is issued, mandatory for presentation at the border. Its absence can lead to fines or denial of entry/exit.
This requirement applies to all foreign citizens, including citizens of the following countries, who often visit Ecuador:
The new measure is part of Ecuador's policy to enhance security, improve border control, and digitize administrative processes. The customs service strongly recommends that travelers do not delay submitting the form and save the QR code in advance, without which border crossing is impossible.
