Flying through Ecuador? You won't be allowed in without a transit visa!
From September 1, Ecuador tightens visa rules for foreign citizens. Now travelers from 45 countries will need a transit visa for layovers at the country's airports. Previously, they only needed to obtain a visa for extended stays, but the new measures expand immigration control.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, the decision was made to «strengthen state security and tighten control over migration flows». The authorities emphasize that they remain committed to respecting the rights of foreigners and international standards.
The cost of the visa has also been determined. A tourist visa to enter Ecuador will cost 50 US dollars, while a transit visa, which is only needed for a short stay during a layover, will cost 30 US dollars.
