Current Travel and Safety Information for Rwanda
On July 3, 2026, new travel and safety advisories for Rwanda were published. These advisories pertain in particular to the regions bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where non-essential travel is discouraged. The security situation in these areas is tense due to conflicts in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Another important issue is the current outbreak of Ebola in Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Uganda. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified this outbreak as a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern.” Although there have been no confirmed cases in Rwanda to date, Rwandan authorities have taken precautionary measures, including entry restrictions.
Travelers should strictly follow the instructions of local authorities. This includes avoiding contact with sick people and suspected cases, as well as refraining from touching wild animals or consuming their products. There is currently no vaccination available for travelers against the Ebola Bundibugyo virus.
It is recommended to refrain from visiting hospitals and attending funerals. Travelers should also avoid large crowds. If symptoms that could indicate an infection develop, travelers should contact a medical service immediately.
