Current Travel and Safety Information for the Democratic Republic of the Congo

On July 3, 2026, new travel and safety advisories for the Democratic Republic of the Congo were published. These advisories specifically address the security situation and health risks that travelers should be aware of.

Travelers are advised against traveling to certain provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These include the provinces of Maniema, North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, Haut-Uélé, Haut-Lomami, Tshopo, Tanganyika, as well as the northern part of Haut-Katanga Province and the border area with the Central African Republic. There is an increased security risk in these regions.

Of particular note is the current Ebola outbreak in Ituri Province. The World Health Organization has classified the outbreak as a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern.” Travelers should be aware of the health risks and take precautions to avoid infection.

Special regulations apply to travelers from the affected provinces. Before traveling to other countries, they must spend 21 days in unaffected provinces. This measure is intended to prevent the spread of the virus.

In addition to the health situation, the security situation in the eastern part of the country is tense due to conflicts with the armed group M23. Travelers should stay informed about the current situation and avoid unnecessary travel to these areas.
