Silicon Valley under attack: new US visa rules from September
From September 2, 2025, US citizens holding H-1B and other nonimmigrant visas will no longer be able to renew them without an in-person interview at the consulates of their countries. The US State Department has updated the «Interview Waiver Program», canceling the popular option of remote document renewal. New rules will also affect children under 14 years old and applicants over 79 years old.
According to experts, the changes will lead to delays, additional expenses, and difficulties for specialists working in American companies, especially in Silicon Valley, where H-1B visas are in demand for hiring foreign workers.
Lawyers advise visa holders to plan their trips in advance, book consulate appointments, and prepare documents carefully. It is expected that the scrutiny of applicants' social media will become more stringent.
