The US is imposing a visa ban on 19 countries starting June 9, 2025.

From June 9, 2025, a new visa ban signed by President Donald Trump will come into effect in the United States. The restrictions will affect citizens of 19 countries: a complete ban on the issuance of visas of all categories is introduced for 12 countries, partial restrictions are provided for 7 countries. The US administration explains its actions by the need to protect national security and control migration risks.

A complete ban on the issuance of any visas, including tourist, work, student, immigration, and family reunion visas, applies to citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti.

Partial visa restrictions starting from June 9 are introduced for Venezuela, Cuba, Turkmenistan, Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, and Togo. For these countries, the ban will not affect all categories of visas; clarifications on specific types of visas are expected from the US State Department.

Individual categories of foreign nationals, despite the new measures, retain the right to enter the country. Exceptions are made for holders of valid visas issued before the specified date, green card holders, diplomats, employees of international organizations, participants in international sports events, as well as recipients of special immigration visas.

According to the White House statements, the decision was made due to insufficient level of biometric and biographical verification in these countries, which, according to the authorities, increases the risks of entry by potentially dangerous individuals. One of the reasons cited is the recent incident in Colorado, where a crime was committed by a foreigner with an expired visa.

Individuals from these countries are advised to verify the current requirements before applying for visas or planning a trip to the United States.
