Cambodia-Thailand border: temporary restrictions for e-visa holders
Travelers planning a trip to Cambodia from Thailand with an e-visa should consider existing restrictions on border crossing.
E-visa (e-Visa) has long been a convenient way to enter Cambodia: it is processed online and saves tourists from having to visit consulates or wait in lines upon arrival. However, in August 2025, the country's authorities temporarily restricted the use of e-Visa at some land crossings.
As of August 19, two popular border crossing points with Thailand are closed:
- Cham Yeam (Koh Kong province)
- Poipet (Banteay Meanchey province)
Travelers with an e-visa can currently enter Cambodia through:
- Phnom Penh International Airport (KTI, Phnom Penh)
- Siem Reap International Airport (SAI)
- Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS)
- Bavet land crossing (border with Vietnam)
- Tropaeng Kreal land crossing (border with Laos)
It is important to note that on September 9, 2025, Phnom Penh International Airport (KTI) officially replaced the old Phnom Penh airport (PNH), which ceased operations for civilian flights. Now it is through Techo that one can enter the country with an e-visa.
Departure from Cambodia for e-Visa holders is allowed through any operational crossing point.
