Somalia to launch e-visas from September 1, 2025
Somalia has announced an important visa reform: from September 1, 2025, the country will launch a full-fledged electronic visa processing system e-Visa/eTAS. The electronic visa is intended to simplify the entry process for foreign citizens, freeing them from the need to apply at embassies and consulates. Now tourists and business travelers will be able to apply for a visa, pay the fees, and receive entry permission in digital format.
According to the leadership of the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency, the launch of e-Visa was a historic step that puts the country in line with states that already use modern digital visa solutions.
The General Director of ICA emphasized that certain categories of foreigners are exempt from the requirement to obtain eTAS, including holders of multiple visas, residents with permits, diplomats, UN passport holders, and citizens of countries with free movement agreements. For others, entry into Somalia will only be possible with an electronic visa.
The Minister of Internal Security confirmed that all visa fees will be paid exclusively online and go directly to the accounts of the Ministry of Finance. This will ensure the transparency and security of the new system.
