New hub for IT: Moldova simplifies relocation for IT specialists and freelancers

Moldova opens its doors to global specialists: from September 20, the official digital nomad visa program begins. This decision makes the country one of the new points on the map for the growing community of remote workers.

In accordance with the new initiative, foreign citizens working for companies registered outside of Moldova will have the opportunity to legally reside and work in the territory of the republic. The program is designed for freelancers, IT specialists, consultants, and other professionals whose activities are not tied to a specific office. A key requirement is confirmation that their employer or business is located in another country.

To obtain a temporary permit for up to two years applicants will need to meet a number of criteria. The document package includes confirmation of employment or company ownership, a detailed history of income from remote work for the last period, as well as a valid health insurance policy. Additionally, proof of housing in Moldova will be required — whether it is a rental agreement or property ownership.

The authorities emphasize that the program is aimed at attracting highly qualified specialists to the country, who can contribute to the local economy and cultural exchange. It is expected that a notification with a full list of requirements and the application procedure will be published soon, as soon as all formalities are agreed upon.
