Ghana: Several Embassy Websites Down – E-Visa Applications Still Possible
Since August 17, 2026, numerous websites of Ghanaian embassies and high commissions around the world have been inaccessible. Among those affected are the diplomatic missions in Paris, London, Washington, Brussels, Madrid, Ottawa, and Tokyo. Following an investigation, at least 13 Ghanaian diplomatic missions abroad are now known to be affected by the outage, which has been described as a technical issue. The High Commission in London officially confirmed a “temporary technical glitch” and stated that work is underway to restore the website.
For travelers and visa applicants, one piece of information is particularly important: Ghana’s national e-visa system itself is not affected by the disruption and remains fully operational. The downed websites exclusively concern the online presences of individual embassies and high commissions, which typically provide general consular information. The actual application process for a visa to Ghana runs through a separate, centralized system and has not been affected by the current technical issues.
Nevertheless, the large number of downed embassy websites is causing uncertainty among many people planning a trip to Ghana. Anyone who normally uses an embassy website to find out about entry requirements, required documents, or current travel advisories will currently find these channels blocked. This can be particularly inconvenient for people who want to travel on short notice and rely on up-to-date, reliable information.
Important to know: Those who apply for their visa through a specialized service provider are hardly affected by this disruption anyway. The entire process—from document review to submission of the application—takes place independently of the downed embassy websites. The standard requirements for both tourist visas and business visas for Ghana remain unchanged, regardless of whether individual embassy websites are accessible online or not.
The cause of this widespread disruption has not yet been conclusively determined. Officials have not yet provided detailed information on whether this is a central technical issue with the IT infrastructure affecting multiple diplomatic missions simultaneously or a series of independent, isolated outages. What is clear, however, is that the affected missions are actively working to resolve the issue and that the situation is considered temporary.
For anyone currently planning a trip to Ghana, it is advisable not to rely on the embassy websites, which are currently only partially accessible. Anyone with questions about the cost of a Ghana visa or the required visa type can obtain reliable and up-to-date information regardless of the status of individual embassy websites. The processing of pending and new applications is not affected by the reported technical issues.
