Want to work with a sea view? Croatia has extended its digital nomad visa

On September 1, 2025, Croatia made another step towards digital nomads. From 2025, the country extended the visa duration for remote workers to 18 months, significantly expanding the program launched back in 2021. Now foreigners working online for overseas companies can enjoy life on the Adriatic for a longer time.

The updated rules apply to citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA, and Switzerland. Candidates need to confirm a stable income from remote work — at least 3295 euros per month, which is 2.5 times higher than the average net salary in Croatia. Options for confirmation — account statements (from 39,540 euros for 12 months or 59,310 euros for 18 months) or pay slips for the last six months.

Special attention is given to the family. Now close relatives, including unmarried partners, if they have lived together for more than three years or have common children, can join the visa holders. This makes Croatia even more attractive not only for single digital nomads but also for couples with children.

The list of documents is standard: passport, valid longer than the intended stay, health insurance, certificates of no criminal record, proof of rental or property ownership in Croatia, and proof of work or business abroad.

It is important to note that digital nomads are not allowed to work for Croatian companies and can only provide services to foreign employers. Upon arrival, the applicant must register with the police within three days and obtain a biometric card.

Extension is possible, but with a 'cooling-off period' — six months must be spent outside the country, after which a new application can be submitted. Thus, Croatia effectively offers digital nomads an almost permanent opportunity to return.

This initiative fits into the strategy of the region, which is actively developing programs for digital nomads to compensate for the downturn in the tourism sector. The Adriatic coast, picturesque cities, and warm climate make Croatia one of the most sought-after countries for remote workers in Europe.
