ETIAS to become more expensive: EU approves new entry permit fees
The European Commission has announced an increase in the cost of processing ETIAS permits for citizens of third countries who do not require a visa to enter Europe. Instead of 7 euros, travelers will now have to pay 20 euros. In Brussels, it is noted: the decision is related to the increase in operational expenses of the system, inflation and the need to harmonize the fee with similar programs of other states.
ETIAS should simplify entry into 30 European countries for visa-free travelers and simultaneously enhance security. Before the trip, tourists will fill out an online form with personal data, after which the system will automatically process the request. Typically, the response will be received within a few minutes. Applicants under 18 and over 70 years of age are exempt from the fee.
The updated tariff will now undergo a two-month review procedure in the Council of the EU and the European Parliament. After approval, the fee will take effect simultaneously with the launch of the system, which is scheduled for the end of 2026.
