Australia 2025–26: a migration plan without cuts and with new visas
The Australian government has announced the parameters of the migration program for 2025–2026. The total number of places for permanent migrants is maintained at 185,000, as in the current period. The decision was made after consultations with state and territory authorities.
The main share of distribution is still allocated to the 'Qualification' direction — 132,200 places, which is about 71% of the total. The 'Family' direction provides for 52,500 places, and another 300 are allocated for the 'Special Right' category.
A key innovation will be the launch of the 'Talent and Innovation' visa with a quota of 4,300 places. It will combine the existing 'Global Talents' and 'Outstanding Talents' programs, as well as introduce a National Innovation Visa. Applications already submitted under previous categories will be considered within the new scheme.
Thus, Australia continues its policy of attracting skilled professionals and supporting family reunification, maintaining a balance between the needs of the economy and the social sphere.
