Current Travel and Safety Information for Spain
On July 3, 2026, new travel and safety advisories for Spain were published. These advisories specifically address current developments regarding natural disasters and the general security situation in the country.
There is currently a major wildfire in the La Bisbal d'Empordà region of Catalonia. Approximately 750 hectares of forest and scrubland have been affected, and strong Tramontana winds are making it difficult to contain the fire. Travelers in the region should strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and the fire department and stay informed about the current situation.
Spain remains at the second-highest terror alert level, which was introduced following the 2017 attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils. Travelers should be especially vigilant in crowded places and at events and should follow general safety guidelines.
In tourist centers and major cities, particularly in Barcelona, caution is advised regarding pickpocketing and petty crime. Travelers should keep their valuables secure and avoid carrying unnecessary valuables. There are also frequent incidents of attacks on motorists on the highways, particularly the A7.
To increase safety, travelers should opt for cashless payments and carry only the necessary amount of cash. It is recommended to make copies of important documents and not to leave valuables visible inside the vehicle.
