Egypt launches pilot program for emergency e-visas upon arrival

Egypt is taking a step towards modernizing its tourist service by launching a pilot program of a new digital emergency visa issuance system upon arrival. The system will start operating at Cairo International Airport from mid-June. 

The new system is designed to simplify the visa application process to assist those who need to obtain a visa at the last minute or are traveling for urgent reasons. 

Unlike traditional methods, which are often associated with long waits and border control issues, the new system will allow travelers to quickly and conveniently obtain a visa. To do this, they will be able to use a QR code that will identify the airports included in the program.

Citizens of 78 countries eligible for Egypt's standard e-visa program will be able to use the emergency electronic visa upon arrival. This innovation will significantly simplify the entry process for many travelers arriving at Cairo International Airport.

To enhance passenger convenience, modern self-service kiosks for visa issuance will be installed in the arrival areas. A special mobile application will also be launched, which will allow users to apply for emergency visas.

Travelers will be able to use this application to upload necessary documents and make payments both before and after arrival. This will significantly speed up the visa acquisition process and make it more convenient, allowing to avoid long queues and unnecessary delays.

If the pilot project is successful, it will serve as a basis for expanding the program to other major airports, including Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, and Luxor, which also serve a large number of international flights.

Despite all the innovations, tourists are advised to obtain a visa to Egypt in advance to avoid potential problems when entering the country.
