New entry rules for Mozambique: mandatory electronic authorization (ETA) for citizens of Germany and 28 other countries

Starting April 24, 2025, Mozambique has introduced a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for citizens of 29 countries who do not need a visa to enter the country. This innovation is an important step in the government's efforts to improve border control and increase security levels.

Now, citizens of countries exempt from visa requirements must notify their intention to enter Mozambique no later than 48 hours before the planned departure. Registration is possible exclusively through the official platform.

Citizens of the following countries must obtain a mandatory ETA:
Belgium
Canada
China
Côte d'Ivoire
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Ghana
Indonesia
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Japan
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Russia
Saudi Arabia
Senegal
Singapore
South Korea
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Ukraine
United Arab Emirates
United Kingdom
United States of America

The validity of the ETA is three months from the date of its approval. It is important to note that this is not a visa, but a notification of legal entry, which must be presented upon arrival along with a passport and other supporting documents. This list includes confirmation of accommodation booking, return ticket, and financial documents proving the availability of funds to cover the expenses of the stay for both tourists and business travelers. For business trips, an additional invitation letter from the host company in Mozambique is required.

Travelers are also required to pay an administrative fee, which can be paid in either local or foreign currency accepted by the government of the country. Failure to pay this fee or the absence of an approved ETA may result in denial of boarding or refusal of entry at the border.

Foreign nationals are advised to familiarize themselves with the new requirements in advance and prepare all necessary documents for smooth entry into Mozambique. Non-compliance with new requirements will be considered a violation of the country's immigration laws.
