Yes, citizens of most countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, need a visa. Exceptions — CIS countries and states with a visa-free regime.

The list includes more than 90 countries, including:

Citizens of these countries can enter without a visa:

Yes, the electronic tourist visa (e-visa) allows entry into Azerbaijan through all official international checkpoints. This applies to both airports and land borders.

You can use the e-visa to cross the border in the following cases:

International airports of Azerbaijan:

Baku (Heydar Aliyev Airport)

Ganja

Nakhchivan

Lankaran (as international flights resume)

Land border crossings:
You can enter through border points on the border with Georgia, Russia, Iran, and Turkey, if these points are open to foreigners and operating at the time of travel.

 When planning a trip, check the current status of the specific checkpoint (especially land borders), as there may be temporary restrictions related to political or epidemiological situations.

What's convenient: It doesn't matter which transport you arrive by (plane, train, car, or bus) — the e-visa will be valid at all these borders.

No. The tourist visa is intended solely for tourism purposes. It does not grant the right to official employment, paid internships, business activities, or studying at educational institutions in the country.

While on a tourist visa, you can:

• visit attractions,
• travel around the country,
• participate in tours,
• attend cultural events,
• temporarily visit relatives or friends.

However, you do not have the right:

• to take up employment, even temporarily,
• to undergo paid internships,
• to receive education at educational institutions (except for short-term courses without a diploma),
• to engage in volunteer or other activities that involve payment or receiving other benefits.

If you exceed the stay duration specified in your tourist visa (including e-visa), it will be considered a violation of the visa regime of Azerbaijan. The consequences depend on the specific situation and the duration of the delay:

Main consequences:

• Fines: At the border upon departure, you will be required to pay an administrative fine. The amount of the fine depends on the number of days overdue.
  For example: For a small exceedance of the term (up to 10 days), the fine can range from 300 to 500 manats. For a more extended violation, the fine increases.
  
  
• Ban on entry into Azerbaijan: In case of serious or repeated violations of the stay duration, migration authorities may decide to ban entry into the country for a certain period:Usually, this is from 6 months to 5 years. In some cases, a permanent ban is possible.
  
  
• Problems with obtaining visas in the future: Violation of the visa regime is recorded in the database of border and migration services. This may negatively affect obtaining new visas not only in Azerbaijan but also in other CIS or post-Soviet countries.
  
  
• Deportation: In case of significant exceedance of the stay term, you may be officially deported with a decree prohibiting entry.
