For citizens from more than 190 countries who are not allowed visa-free entry for tourism or business, a visa is mandatory and is issued through U.S. embassies.

However, it should be noted that Puerto Rico currently has a ban on issuing visas to citizens from countries such as Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Libya.

The length of stay and validity of a visa in Puerto Rico may vary depending on the type of visa, purpose of travel, length of stay, and nationality of the traveler.

With a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ESTA), foreign nationals may visit Puerto Rico for tourist or business purposes for a maximum of 90 days without obtaining a visa. The permit is valid for 2 years from the date of issuance.

A visitor visa authorizes multiple entries and can be valid for 10 years from the date of issuance. With this type of visa, you can stay in Puerto Rico for up to 180 days from the date of entry during a temporary stay and for a specific purpose (tourism, business).
