Yemen: Official Travel Advisory Confirmed – Call to Leave the Country Remains in Effect

As of July 29, 2026, travelers are expressly warned against traveling to Yemen—including the island of Socotra. Anyone currently still in the country is urged to leave Yemen as soon as possible. This assessment applies without restriction to the entire territory of Yemen and is directed at all travelers, regardless of their nationality.

The security situation in the region remains extremely unstable. Although a memorandum of understanding to end the military conflict was signed between the U.S. and Iran in June 2026, there continue to be an increasing number of military strikes against targets in the region. The risk of an escalation of hostilities and short-term suspensions of air traffic persists—including for Yemen itself. In addition, the threat of terrorist attacks remains as high as ever.

Further attacks by the Houthi militia are possible at any time and may also affect foreign nationals. A resurgence of the conflict would likely trigger defensive measures by international forces and further exacerbate the security situation in the country. Coastal waters are particularly affected: Risk Level 3 applies to ships in Yemeni waters and ports, while Risk Level 2 applies to the international shipping route through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the southern Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.

In practical terms, this means the following for travelers: Tourist travel to Yemen is currently strongly discouraged. Individual voyages by ship into or off the Yemeni coast should be avoided, as should calls at Yemeni ports. Anyone who is nevertheless traveling in the region should avoid crowded places and, in particular, facilities with international or Israeli ties; give demonstrations and large gatherings a wide berth; and always have fully functional, fully charged communication devices available.

Despite the tense situation, there are still circumstances in which entry into Yemen is unavoidable—for example, for professional or family reasons. In such cases, we assist with applying for the necessary documents, such as a business visa for Yemen, and provide transparent information about the currently applicable requirements. If you’d like to get an overview of the applicable fees in advance, you can find the relevant information on our page about the costs of a Yemen visa.

Given the volatile security situation, we recommend that anyone considering a trip to Yemen closely monitor current developments and critically review their own travel plans. Those who still need to enter the country should take care of the necessary formalities well in advance—we are available to answer any questions regarding visa options for Yemen.
