Planning a trip to the UK? Don't forget the mandatory ETA from January 2025
From January 2025, travelers from 48 countries eligible for visa-free entry to the UK will be required to obtain a prior entry permit (ETA) before traveling. This new rule applies to tourists and business travelers making short visits, as well as those planning to transit through the UK.
The ETA permit will be valid for two years and will allow multiple entries. Every traveler, including infants, must have their own permit, which can be obtained on their behalf.
Applications for ETA can be submitted through our visa agency. An application requires a valid passport, a digital photo, and basic travel information. The average processing time for applications is 72 hours, but it is recommended to apply in advance.
Citizens of 48 non-European countries who need to apply for ETA from January 8, 2025
Starting from April 2, 2025, this requirement will also apply to citizens of European countries. Travelers will be able to apply for an electronic travel authorization to the UK starting from March 5, 2025. The authorities hope that the introduction of the ETA will simplify border control and enhance security.
UK residents and those who already have valid UK visas do not need to apply for an entry permit (ETA).
