Egypt extended the free transit visa for 96 hours and emergency entry to Luxor and Aswan
February 16, 2026, the authorities of Egypt announced the extension of the free transit visa for up to 96 hours, as well as the resumption of the free emergency entry program into the southern cities of the country.
The free transit visa program has been extended until April 2027. Foreign passengers flying with Egyptian airlines and transiting through Cairo, Luxor, or Aswan will be able to stay in the country without a standard visa for up to four days.
The measure applies to travelers using Egypt as a transit point, and allows them to leave the airport for up to 96 hours without an additional visa procedure.
In addition, the action of the free emergency entry visa for tourists arriving directly at the airports of Luxor and Aswan has been extended. The program will operate during the peak summer seasons of 2026 and 2027.
The initiative is aimed at increasing tourist flow to the southern regions of the country and simplifies entry for foreign nationals without the need for a prior visa.
The extension of both programs is part of Egypt's strategy to liberalize visa policy and stimulate international tourism. The authorities hope that simplified transit and entry conditions will enhance the country's attractiveness as a transit hub and tourist destination.
Thus, foreign travelers have the opportunity for a short-term stay in Egypt without a standard tourist visa, and the southern regions — an additional flow of visitors in the high season
