Entry requirements for Ethiopia
These travel documents are essential
Depending on the type of visa, you need different documents to obtain an Ethiopian visa and enter the country. However, you need a valid passport regardless of the visa type. This must be valid for at least 6 weeks at the time of entry. If you lose your passport during your stay in Ethiopia, you must report this to the relevant Ethiopian police station, which will issue you a certificate. Subsequently, a replacement document must be requested from the German embassy. To leave the country again, you must apply for an exit visa with both papers at the Ethiopian immigration office in Addis Ababa.
Visa requirement upon entry
According to the entry regulations of Ethiopia, Germans are required to have a visa. The visa must correspond to the foreign visitors' purpose of travel. A visa upon entry is only available for tourists arriving at Bole International Airport (Addis Ababa). However, long waiting times should be expected. Visa extensions must be requested from the Ethiopian Immigration Authority in Addis Ababa in a timely manner before the visa expires. However, there is no guarantee of an extension. Those who exceed the duration of stay may face legal consequences. Entry without a visa is only permitted for citizens of Kenya and Djibouti. All other foreign visitors must have valid visas!
