Syria eases visa requirements to attract tourists

Syria is taking a step into the future by simplifying the visa process for foreign visitors. An electronic visa (e-Visa) will be launched from May 1, 2024, allowing tourists to apply online and receive travel authorization without visiting an embassy or consulate.

The initiative, developed by the Ministry of Tourism together with other agencies, aims to revitalize the country's tourism sector, which has faced difficulties in recent years. The e-visa will attract more tourists, especially from countries where there are no Syrian diplomatic missions.

The application process will be simple and fast. Foreign nationals will be able to apply on a special portal, applications will be processed within 72 hours, and payment for the visa will be possible both online and upon arrival in the country.

The e-visa is expected to significantly increase the flow of tourists to Syria, which in turn will bring additional revenue to the country's economy. In 2023, 2 million foreign visitors visited Syria, and the authorities are hoping for a further increase in this number.
